The American Connection

Even though I have lived virtually all my life in England, I am half American and proud of it. My roots are in Nebraska (a state that attracts many jokes, but which I have always found to be inhabited by amazingly warm and hospitable people). It also has a varied culture. Read "My Antonia" by Willa Cather for the flavour of the state. My grandparents were homesteaders. My mother was born in that state, and grew up in the depression years - which have (2009) become a hot topic. Life really was grim then - still much worse than it is for us now.

Those years destroyed her father'’s life, and my mother had to work her way through university, often returning home to earn more money before resuming her studies. She was later to become the village doctor where we lived in England, and later still she set up cancer screening clinics throughout East Anglia. She died in 2001

This small collection of articles has a little feel for my take on the American way of life (legal or otherwise).
